Gold Coast, Day 3 – Seaworld

25 February 2009

Today was so awesome, the first thing we did when we got in was go to Ray Reef and we got to pet and feed the sting rays!  They were all of adorable.  Some of them jumped out of the water to get to the food I was holding!  I love it so much I ended up buying two containers of ray food.  I was trying to attract different kinds of rays with different kinds of fish.  You got given a prawn, some squid and some little fish.  The white spotted ray apparently like the prawn the best, but I think they all have just grown to like everything because the other rays ate the prawn in the end.  They were really nice to touch as well, and they seemed to really like being petted.

After this, we went on the Burmuda triangle ride, which I’d actually forgotten what it was like, and it was kind of scary but I liked the scene that was set up for it.  We had lunch after this then went to the log ride and this new Jetski Rescure ride, which was awesome although I screamed the whole way around because it was really fast!

The dolphin show was so super awesome.  I love dolphins, they are so intelligent and they seem to genuinely like living at Seaworld and they seem to build a really good trusting relationship with their trainers.  They are just such amazing and beautiful animals.  Alex managed to get a few awesome photos of them which I’ll post here when I get the chance.

Gold Coast, Day 2 – Movieworld

24 February 2009

We have a three park pass thing so we’re going to three theme parks while we are here.  Today we went to Movieworld.  It rocked so hard.  We first went on this weird Batman simulator thing, it wasn’t that great, then we got lunch, haha.  After that we went on the Scooby Doo Coaster, which was awesome and so cute.  There were a lot of show type things as well, we watched a stunt car one, which was so incredibly awesome.  I got lots of pictures and filmed a bit of it.  It was so neat.

Anna, Jemma and I went on the log flume type thing, the boys were like “Ehhh we don’t want to get wet” so it was just us girls.  It was really neat.  Alex had his uber zoom lens on his camera so he got close ups of us on it, it was awesome.  Seriously his lens saved us a lot of money on souvenier ride photos because his were just as good as the ones that they take at the parks.

Anna really wanted to go on some more scary rides, and we’re all pansies so none of us wanted to go on with her, but me and Jemma managed to go on the Superman rollercoaster with her.  Apparently you experience 4.7G and -1G on it, which was right.  We were freaking out hard in the line about it.  It wasn’t as bad as we thought it was going to be but we still screamed the whole way round.  Unfortunately the force of the ride made me accidentally bang my industrial piercing on the harness and it bled like crazy so I had to get the first aid nurse person to clean it up.

We left pretty much after that!  It was an awesome day overall.

Sydney, Day Four and Gold Coast, Day One

23 February 2009

Today was our last day in Sydney, and we were so knackered from Soundwave that once we had checked out of the hotel, we just went to the park and sat down on the grass for a good hour. Jemma and Anna went to Starbucks which Alex and Tim played around with the cameras. I just played DS I was so tired. On the way home from Soundwave we saw this swish looking Italian restaurant, so we walked there for lunch. We ate entirely too much, which was awesome, and they also had Dajuiri’s for $6 each! Me and Jemma had two each and were giggly until we got on the plane for the Gold Coast. It was really weird because on the plane you had to pay to watch the little TV’s, but they gave you a preview for about 5 minutes, but then after that it switched to this countdown screen, and this guy saying “VSU, Channel 4″ over and over again. We all laughed so hard about it for a good 15 minutes, and our flight was only 25 minutes.

When we got to Gold Coast, we took a shuttle to our apartment. It was really weird though because we droved through my friend Lucas’ old suburb where he used to live. When we got to the apartment, we just chillax’d ordered dinner, then hadf a swim. It is the most beautiful place ever. It has three swimming pools, one of which has like a little beach shore with sand and stuff. It is so pretty.

Sydney, Day 3 – Soundwave

22 February 2009

Today we went to Soundwave, which is a big music festival, kind of like the Big Day Out, but cooler, because the bands are better. The main genres are punk, hardcore and metal. We went mainly for the punk bands since none of us like metal.

The start of the day was however, extremely dissapointing. We got up bright and early so that we would be there in time for the first band that we wanted to see, which was Medina Lake. We arrived at the venue at 10.00am, the venue was supposed to open at 11.00am. So we got there an hour early just in case. However, they didn’t start letting people in until 11.30am, and they were doing stringent bag checks. We didn’t make it in until almost 2.00pm. So we waited in line for over 3 hours. The most soul-destroying part was that we completely missed Medina Lake, which was one of the bands we had specifically gone to this to see. We were so incredibly dissapointed.

The rest of the day was good though. The highlights for me were definately Hellogoodbye and New Found Glory. I got t-shirts for both of them. Billy Talent also rocked SO hard, even though I didn’t know many of the songs it was still awesome. Hellogoodbye were so cute, they talked about nerdy things like the internet, and referenced Internet memes! It was so awesome. They are definately better live too!

All in all it was a good day, despite the dissapointment at the beginning.

Pictures will be posted when I get back!

Sydney, Days One and Two

20 February 2009

We arrived on the 20th at about 10 o’clock and left our bags and decided to walk around this really awesome park.  It had a mini rainforest and there were all these awesomely large spiders and the highlight were the bats.  They were so cute I wanted to pet them, I had never seen bats in real life before, only in pictures.  We got kind of lost in the park and had to ask this guy how to get out, and we managed it.  We had a look at the opera house and took some photos.  Didn’t go in though, because I mean the real beauty of it is on the outside anyway!  We found a nice restaurant to have lunch at, that was pretty yum.  I ate a baby octopus and felt kind of bad!  After that we just wandered slowly back to the hotel, and on the way we bought fruit from a fruit stand.  It was really weird because it was like a magazine stand but with fruit… We got back to the hotel and just fell asleep because we were so tired since we’d been up since 4.30am.  For dinner we just went to a takeout place called Oporto, then went back to the hotel and slept more.

21 February 2009

Today we went to the Sydney Aquarium, which was neat.  We got to see the manatees (dewgong).  They were so super cute, I managed to get some awesome photos which I’ll upload here when I get home!  We also saw lots of sharks, stingray and lots of tropical fish.  It was really interesting because you walked through these tubes which went through the enclosure, so you could see them from underwater.  After the aquarium, we went to Paddy’s market, and I bought so much awesome clothing for cheap.  I got these awesome badass pants and a jacket, which I’m sure will turn up in some of my photos so I will also post those here when I get back.  We had dinner at this fantastic Italian restaurant, I had some really weird pasta.  Our waiter was so neat too!  Everyone who worked there was actually Italian which was nice and it set the mood really nicely!  It was the best meal ever.

Anyway, I’m running out of time on this internet thing so I will blog about the rest later!  Take care everyone!
